Details of the play and audiorecording of conquesting the Mars
Recorded by Dr. László Végh
The Play Mars was created in 1959. This is the second Kovásznai’s play.
This audioplay was a recorded dictation by György Kovásznai in 1963 at Dr. Végh’s reading theater . Creating a radioplay was their plan at Dr. Végh’s, as staging it was absolutelly hopeless.
At the rehearsals Eta Erdélyi, a painter took part as Hedvig, the mistery woman, János Major, a painter, as King the world scholar, and Kovásznai, the director, as Cimaroza the music teacher and the main actor.
Zsuzsa Ferda was to be Aglája, the Siberian teacher and Sándor Juhász Sándor Ramon the world actor. Zotyó alias Flóra Zoltán, a painter, also participated.
Not more could we achieve than mere rehearsals of the radio play, due to the lack of time. I was responsible for music elements – remembers Dr. Végh.
Two versions of the play are also known. The recording from 1959, which was more colorful and lively, is missing,. This was later done in a more rigid form and spreader by Kovásznai with keeping the text. The reason for these changes might have been the ideas that could be deducted from Brecht, but it is only speculation.
The important fact of the times was that tapes were not readilyavailable or sold. Carrier Agfa C tape was delivered from the Radio as rollout material. We copied it onto a CD-ROM with a cleaning filter, brummfilter and highlights.
We thank Dr. László Végh on the data.
